ISRO’s Aditya-L1 mission captures first-ever image of a solar are ‘kernel’

India’s first space-based solar mission, Aditya-L1, has captured the first-ever image of a solar flare ‘kernel’ using the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT). Observing the Sun’s lower atmosphere, SUIT detected an X6.3-class solar flare on February 22, revealing brightening in the Near Ultraviolet range (200-400 nm). This confirms how flare energy spreads across solar layers and its impact on plasma temperature. Launched on September 2, 2023, Aditya-L1 reached its halo orbit at Lagrange Point L1 on January 6, 2024.
