On February 11, 1858, Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old from Lourdes, France, saw the Virgin Mary in a series of 18 apparitions at the Grotto of Massabielle. In 1862, Pope Pius IX authenticated the visions, leading to Lourdes becoming a major pilgrimage site. Known for its miraculous spring, it attracts millions seeking healing. February 11 is now the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of the Sick (declared in 1992).

BJP scouting for new CM in Manipur after Biren’s exit.

After N. Biren Singh resigned as Manipur CM, the BJP began searching for his successor. Sambit Patra met BJP MLAs (excluding seven Kuki-Zo members) and allies. Discussions focused on reconciliation and peace, with the final decision left to the BJP high command. Possible candidates include Yumnam Khemchand, Thokchom Satyabrata, Konthoujam Govindas, Thounaojam Basantakumar, and Thokchom Radheshyam. The Congress opposed President’s Rule, and security has been heightened amid speculation.

Why were you silent about Bills, SC asks T.N. Governor.

The Supreme Court questioned Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi for his prolonged “silence” before withholding consent and referring 10 State Bills to the President. Justice J.B. Pardiwala noted that the Governor had concerns but did not communicate them earlier. The Bills aimed to remove the Governor from the Vice-Chancellor appointment process. The Tamil Nadu Assembly reconsidered and resent them, but the Governor still withheld consent. The court reserved judgment on the issue.

CSR funds scam: SIT formed to probe 34 cases across Kerala.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe 34 cases related to a ₹37 crore CSR funds scam in Kerala. Headed by State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb, the 80-member SIT includes officers from the Economic Offense Wing, Crime Branch, and Cyber Division. Key accused Ananthu Krishnan, linked to ₹500 crore transactions, was sent back to judicial custody. An action committee of aggrieved investors has been formed in North Paravur.

Niti Aayog report seeks more public funding for higher education.

A NITI Aayog report reveals that Jammu & Kashmir (8.11%), Manipur (7.25%), and Meghalaya (6.64%) spend the highest percentage of GDP on education, while Delhi (1.67%) and Telangana (2%) allocate the least. Maharashtra leads in higher education budget (₹11,421 crore), while Bihar spends the highest GSDP percentage (1.56%). State disparities in education spending have widened, prompting NITI Aayog to urge State Public Universities to set higher standards.
