Summary of Today’s News
Doxxing a new challenge
Sharing someone’s private information online, known as doxxing, enables remote abusers and criminals to target victims from afar by exposing their personal details for exploitation.
Sahana Venugopal reported to Mumbai Police via X (formerly Twitter) that a man shared a video of her dancing, comparing it to sex work. Despite her requests, he refused to remove it, leading to harassment and her locking her X account. Though the video was later taken down by X due to copyright issues, the man, a verified user, defended his actions.
Doxxing, the digital exposure of private information, involves sharing personal details like addresses, phone numbers, and more, often obtained illegally. Even sharing private content not meant for public viewing can lead to harassment and doxxing
However, under India’s IT Rules, social media platforms must respond swiftly to cybercrime complaints. Victims of doxxing need not abandon social media entirely. Once mentally prepared, they can return, ensuring their Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is removed and accounts are secure. Building a support network is crucial for resilience against targeting and maintaining mental well-being.
Iran’s warning to Israel for larger response
Iran issued a warning to Israel and the U.S., threatening a larger response if they retaliate against its recent drone and missile strike on Israeli territory. The tension has raised concerns of potential conflict in the region. The attack, launched in response to a suspected Israeli strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria, caused limited damage in Israel with assistance from the U.S., Britain, and Jordan. Despite hitting an Air Force base and injuring a child, no significant damage was reported.

The Indian government has initiated an inquiry into organ transplants involving foreign nationals due to concerns over a surge in such procedures. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has instructed authorities in states and Union Territories to closely monitor these transplants and take action against hospitals found violating regulations.
The Director-General of Health Services has urged state health authorities to investigate transplants involving foreigners and take action against any breaches of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act, 1994. Hospitals must generate unique IDs for both donors and recipients, and violations may result in suspension of registration.
Measures have been taken to prevent commercial dealings in organ transplants, including issuing alerts to the Ministry of External Affairs. Changes in organ allocation guidelines have led to a significant increase in Indian patients receiving organs.
